Te Hā o Mātauranga

Te Hā o Mātauranga - Learning in Kaikōura - is your one stop shop for education needs in Kaikōura. They operate a variety of services with the aim of "creating, promoting and encouraging learning opportunities within Kaikōura."

Te Hā is contracted by Kaikōura District Council to coordinate Kaikōura Youth Council. 
Youth Council meets in their building at 14 Ludstone Rd, and their mahi is supported by Vicki and Sarah.

Alongside coordinating Youth Council, Te Hā o Mātauranga staff deliver a wide variety of services for youth (and all members of the community).

Driving
Driving Coordinator Renee Wood supports people in their journey to gain their learners, restricted and full licences, Class 2 and other endorsements. Fully qualified and 'I' endorsed driving instructor Robby Roche is available for driving lessons.

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu - Correspondence School
Students who study via Te Kura in Kaikōura can choose to work with Jess - our Kaitautoko Ākonga - individually or in a group setting. Jess is there to help students navigate their school work and provide guidance and support so that students can get the most out of their online schooling.

Training and Upskilling
Te Hā has opportunities for both youth and adults who are looking for training or upskilling in certain areas. They can deliver or source external providers to run trainings and microcredetials in Kaikōura.
They contract GET Group - a private training establishment - to deliver their courses for local learners, as well as REAP Marlborough, and other industry specific training as needed

Mayor's Taskforce for Jobs - Employment
The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) Community Recovery Programme is led by our Mayor, Craig Mackle, and is delivered in collaboration with Te Hā o Mātauranga. The programme is about creating opportunities for sustainable employment for 50 people within the Kaikōura District, who are not in employment, education, or training and/or have been displaced from their employment under COVID-19. 
Sean Madden is the MTFJ Coordinator in Kaikōura - he can help you find employment within the Kaikōura district, organise and pay for external providers to run microcredential courses in Kaikōura, and can provide you with the practical tools you need to kickstart your career - everything from training to new work boots and more. ​

Lateral Youth
Lateral Youth is open to youth year 7 and up. It is a safe space for youth to come on a Friday afternoon, where each term the group comes up with ideas for fun activities to be run.

Youth Services
Te Hā o Mātaurnaga works with young people aged 16-19 to give guidance, support and encouragement to help them find
education, training or work-based learning that works. Some young people will work with them as part of getting financial support from Work and Income. This includes Youth Payment, Young Parent Payment and young partner's receiving a main Work and Income benefit. Youth Service clients receive 20 free driving lessons and are supported to progress through the driver licencing system. The Youth Coach is Elbie Burnett.
