We had a fabulous time celebrating our local young people at the 2023 Kaikōura Youth Awards! Mr Mayor opened the evening with an ode to the hockey team who had just finished up their tournament. Ana and Kyson (our 2023 Arts Award winners) put on a fabulous show, entertaining us with some of their (many!) talents. Kyson sang Burning Love by Elvis, and Ana played a number from The Lord of the Rings on keyboard. Rohan - the Deputy Mayor of Nelson - spoke about change, the impact we have as communities coming together, and how important it is for us to celebrate all types of achievement and successes. Amongst all of this fun we made time for celebrating our winners, playing a game, eating supper and making the most of Andrew's photography. We finished up the night by saying thankyou to our wonderful group of Youth Council members who put the evening together, and saying goodbye to our three seniors; Theo, Maia and Jade, as they finish up their final year with KYC.
